Apple has done a bunch of things right now that shows that they are pushing in terms of momentum, the main thing is driving the price points down, I think they are continuing to gain momentum. The most interesting thing is that:
- Apple Unveils New iPod mini Starting at Just $199. Apple® today unveiled the second generation iPod® mini lineup with a new 4GB model priced at just $199 and a new 6GB model with 50 percent more storage priced at $249. Jobs is right that hitting a $199 price point is a big deal.
- 30GB and 60GB iPod Photos. They have gone to a slim version. I have a color iPod and it does look nice, but was certainly expensive.
- 250M Songs Downloaded. Wow, that means the market is really big.
- 1M Macs per quarter shipped 1,046,000 Macintosh® units and 4,580,000 iPods during the quarter, representing a 26 percent increase in CPU units and a 525 percent increase in iPods over the year-ago quarter. This was the highest shipment level of Macs and this was before the Mac Mini.
But to me the most significant news is that Mac shipments are the highest in the last year and the Mac Mini feels like it is going to be a hot company.
So maybe I'm wrong, but it is interesting to see how momentum works in the consumer business.
